- I can provide a simple trail bike if you so desire.
- This project is ONLY for trail bikes.
Dai Jones is my associate on the Mini Mondo project and has proved himself a world class expedition leader. During our time in Spain, customers kept telling me how much they had learned whilst trail-riding in Dai’s squad. His patient, clear and knowledgeable approach is a gift that many guides on the scene could do well to emulate. It is truly rare to find a professional who has such empathy with the ‘cautious beginner’. It is this kid glove and ‘still small voice of calm’ approach that makes Dai my first choice for anyone who needs to build skill in a testosterone-free environment. I trust him, so will you.
Welcome to the Mondo Skill Builder. This project is designed to be a golden opportunity to advance your riding skills massively, make great like-minded friends, enjoy some of Europe’s premier off-tarmac routes, enjoy great accommodation, food, and company. I have put together a program that will enable you to build confidence improve safety and feel in control of your bike. All week your guide will offer top tips and hints that helped him become a competent trail rider. All week you will have plenty of time to practice getting it right, you will be amazed how much you improve!!! Expect things to get more difficult and arduous as the week goes on, this is a progressive week, as you become more confident the trails continue to challenge.
Skills offered include, bike set up and maintenance, Kit tips, advanced trail reading/planning, navigation, group riding etiquette, safe braking on broken surfaces, cornering techniques and how to get over obstacles.
This project was born out of the Mini Mondo Wilderness Project. It was clear that many riders needed some low pressure ‘quiet’ riding to build skill and confidence. For some people Mini Mondo was a little too intense. The Mondo Skill Builder aims to be a foundation course to help novices and starter adventure riders.
ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
10th September to the 16th – 3 spaces left
1st October to the 7th – 1 space left
All courses take place in the stunning Catalonian Pyrenees where the trails are endless and the scenery is mind-blowing.
Cal Cuix- Berga
Casa Catels- Organya
Solana – Llavorsi
All of these Country houses have been handpicked to offer comfort and old-world charm. The trails start at our doorstep and go in several directions, you will not ride the same route twice.
I have put together a structured route designed to help you grow as the week progresses we will enjoy nursery slope riding to begin with and as you gain confidence and display improvement we will move to slightly more challenging ground. The skill of your guide is his ability to switch your route as the day unfolds and gauge how much you’re ready for. Dai Jones has an in-depth knowledge of these trails and an excellent ability to get you home tired and challenged without pushing you past your ability.
This trip is designed to ensure you leave feeling you are confident to take on our Mini Mondo or enter one of Austin’s Spanish Navigation events.
Hire bikes are available from our ex-pat friend Nick Tunstall at Catalan adventures. (expect to pay around 85 Euros a day) You can also bring your own trail bike, I recommend that you bring something small and easy to manage, I’m sorry to say that big adventure bikes are simply not suitable, if you’re new to this then make it easy, stay nimble. I often have a couple of spare bike spaces in my van and can transport bikes at a cost of £250 each along with a kit bag.
Accommodation. Expect to share a twin room with another participant. This is a self-catering holiday which means everyone needs to pull their weight with the cooking and cleaning. I provide all the necessary food and beverage including packed lunches, wine and beer in the evening and the odd Cafe con leche when we’re on the road.
The accommodation is also included.
